T-posts are steel posts used for a variety of applications, from temporary barrier/snow fences to long-term farm fences. They
have a "T"-shaped cross section and a point at one end, for rapid installation. We manufacture all of our T-posts from the highest quality Canadian hot-rolled steel.
2. What are T-posts used for?
T-posts are versatile! They can guide the growth of small trees, support temporary fences, hold building materials in place, guard against snowdrifts, serve as a post for signs, and much more. T-posts add safety and security to your projects.
3. What is hot-rolled steel?
Hot-rolled steel is produced through a milling process at
temperatures above 1700 degrees Celsius. It is in this hot, pliable state that the shaping of
the steel takes place. This allows us
to offer cost-effective fencing solutions, while still
providing a high quality product.
4. What length should I use?
BESTPRO-FENCETM offers a variety of lengths ranging from 6 ft to 10 ft in Green Light Duty, Brown Heavy Duty, and Galvanized Heavy Duty.
The length that is right for you depends on several factors, including:
- Soil density
- Desired fence height
- Normal frost line for your geographic location. (Example - Southern Ontario requires a depth of 3 ft to avoid frost heave.)
5. What is the difference between heavy and light duty?
T-posts fall into two main categories: Light
Duty and Heavy Duty. The weight difference influences their thickness and tensile strength.
Our Green Light Duty t-posts weigh
in at 0.95 lbs/ft. and our Brown Heavy Duty and Galvanized T-Posts weigh in at
1.33 lbs/ft. The weight that you choose should always be appropriate to
the needs of your project.
6. Can I use T-posts to build a permanent fence?
T-posts are reliable, durable, and offer years of lasting support.
7. Can T-posts stand up to the elements?
All of our T-posts are either powder coated or galvanized. The powder coat and galvanization process helps to protect T-posts from the elements and ensure their longevity.
8. How do you install T-posts?
You can drive your T-post into the ground using a T-post pounder. The T-post pounder has a weighted cap with handles on either side. It provides accurate, effective hammering with minimal stress to the user.
Before
installing your T-posts, we recommend that you create a complete placement plan, as once in the ground they hold
securely and are difficult to remove.
9. How do you remove the T-posts?
Rock the T-post back and forth to loosen the soil around it before
pulling straight up. If this is not possible, dig around
the T-post to loosen the soil.
10. How do I dispose of my T-posts when I don’t want them
anymore?
T-posts are both reusable and recyclable! They can be covered and stored for later use. For disposal, you can take them to your local scrap or recycling facility, or bundle and place them on the curb, according to your local bylaw recommendations for standard trash collection.
